about.

about.

Hi! I am Fiona Javete (she/they). Welcome to my portfolio for Hutchins School of Liberal Studies, Sonoma State University. I am a Track II student with a minor in Early Childhood Education. My passion is working with children outdoors. Even though Track II in the Hutchins School sets you up to go into a credential program, I am taking a break from school. I thrive in non-traditional settings, and therefore am unsure if I will get my multiple subject teaching credential.

My goals in education are to always expand my horizon and see if I can help anyone else along the way. Something I am most proud of during my time at Sonoma State is being a Naturalist at Fairfield Osborn Preserve (see left picture below) where I get to hike and give tours to kids, incorporating what they are learning in the classroom with hands-on outdoor experiences. As someone who has always enjoyed the outdoors and fostering that love for the next generation, my aspiration is to work in outdoor education.

Hutchins has made it possible for me to explore this love of the outdoors while also gaining a broad understanding of the systems in the world. My portfolio will reflect the growth from East Bay girl to Sonoma County naturalist as I nurtured my understanding of myself and the world.
