equity & social justice.
A critical part of being a Hutchins student is becoming an informed citizen. As we discuss and integrate a multitude of perspective on injustice and inequality into these discussions, we become better able to discern solutions and connect to the grander world view.

class. EDEC 270 - Children and Families in a Diverse Society
title. Positionality Statement
Arguably one of the most influential classes I took outside of the LIBS classes, was this EDEC 270 class. One of the starter assignments in below. We write our positionality (how the facets of our identity influences the way we interact with the world and how the world interacts with us), and how that affects our teaching in classes. To a tee, this is about being an informed citizen and educator.

title. Change Your Will
After reading the writings of the late Bell Hooks, one sees the patterns that are ever present in society. This essays in particular connects to the patriarchy and how systems of oppression harm all people (even men in the patriarchy.) Hooks has the importance of equity spelled out very well.

title. California's Climate-Change-Exaggerated Droughts and their Effect on Native Communities
For my class on Native resilience, I did a lot of research around our climate and traditional ecological knowledge. Being able to present what I have found, that colonization influences the severity of drought to this day, in many ways was incredibly beneficial. Including the whole class reflection also touches on the social equity of the current school climate during the first full semester online.

title. The Effect of Participatory Activism and The System
As one of the featured books in my portfolio, this is my response to The Undocumented American and the concepts of inclusion and social justice in the undocumented community. Reading first hand experiences is powerful and life changing within the Hutchins space.
