The appeal of Hutchins is the teaching tracks, but also that it is at its core a Liberal Studies major. In addition to having a minor in Early Childhood Education, I was able to take many classes that were part of other majors, such as THAR or GEOL, but within Hutchins classes I could be creative and include various disciplines and subjects. This let me foster my love of the outdoors and expand my horizons within my four years.

This essay was the final draft of a reflection on attending a religious service different that what you were raised in. To me, this essay meant gaining new experiences as well as exposing me to the idea that my students will have differing backgrounds. This connects to being creative with various subjects.
As my final essay of my first semester in college, I combine images, writing, texts, and poetry to reflect on my experiences with seminar and Hutchins. I discuss the trips and reading that piqued my interest on top of the ideas that set Hutchins up as an interdisciplinary major.

This is a group presentation that I collaborated on during my junior year. This semester was purely online, so it was a challenge to navigate. I am proud of the work that what done for this presentation as well as the community it fostered between my colleagues. Connecting language and science to children and their learning immediately sticks out against the other forms of knowledge in Hutchins.

class. EDEC 237 - Early Childhood Curriculum with Field Experience

For my minor, I was supposed to have several classes with field experience. Because of the pandemic, that was not possible. all observation was through online videos. This assignment is from one such class. At an incredible 52 pages, this assignment is the culmination of creating my own school environment/classroom based on the Forest School practice, complete with visuals and in compliance with state and federal standards.
